Kohala by the Sea, HI
This site is located on the leeward coast of Kohala Mountain, Island of Hawaii. The surrounding grassland scattered with occasional Kiawe trees is very fire-prone. The residents wanted to experiment with Cacti as a succulent hedge for deterring fire and animals. Cacti of the genera Cereus and Stenocereus with tasty fruit were planted in a cinder/compost blend at the southwestern boundary of the site.
